Caucasian Soumak rugs are a traditional type of handmade Persian rug.
Soumaks have a long history that dates back hundreds of years.
Soumak refers to both a handmade style of the rug and a specific weaving technique.  (These rugs weave using warp yarns which makes with pure wool or goat hair.).
In addition to having an interesting history, these rugs offer great value with designs that rival any handmade piece

Soumak rugs are generally very finely woven and feature richly detailed motifs.

Traditionally, these spectacular flat-weave carpets are decorated with ancient symbols, and geometric animals.
Many of these geometric patterns and tribal symbols are associated with the Shahsavan tribe.

Soumak rugs (also spelled Sumak) – This construction technique produces a flat-weave rug that is thick, strong and exceptionally durable.
Unlike kilims, Soumak rugs are not reversible because non-clipped yarns are left on the back. However, they are also stronger than kilims.
