This is a  very large vintage carriage chest. (186 cm wide)
Pine linen trunk, dating to the mid 20th century, circa 1960.

This piece was designed in the manner of 19th century Chinese scroll boxes.
Those were used to store scrolls, probably both painted and written.
 
Generously sized 
Features a rectangular body sitting on a small plinth. 
The lid opens to reveal a narrow interior while the ensemble is flanked with C-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. 
Displays a desirable aged patina
Solid pine in good order with light tones
Dovetails joints
Dressed with single iron pull handle in the middle and a pair of carriage Iron handles to each side.
Internal long shaped iron hinges
The lid has stoppers on each side
 
Full of character and beautiful patina that only years can achieve
