This "Angel Back" chair is known for its elegant, fluid loops of the steam-bent beechwood backrest that resemble wings.
Originally designed and manufactured by the iconic Gebrüder Thonet.

When Thonet's exclusive bentwood process patents expired, high-quality regional workshops like Eissler & Söhne and D.G. Fischel & Söhne began producing their own highly collected versions of these classic designs.
 
The Backrest: Made from a single piece of steam-bent beechwood, sculpted into symmetrical inner loops that give it its signature "angel wing" look. The Seat: Fitted with a hand-woven Viennese cane seat (rattan mesh) attached to a circular frame.

Josias Eissler & Söhne, an Austrian furniture manufacturer that operated in the shadow of the world-famous Thonet brand.
The manufacturers represented a small Viennese handicraft business founded before 1880 within the large group of companies famous for producing bent beech furniture.
They were a small, late-19th to early-20th-century Viennese handicraft business specializing in beech furniture.

The Niche: They manufactured Thonet-style bentwood chairs.
The Competition: They produced high-quality, lightweight cafe and bistro chairs similar to those made by Thonet or Jacob & Josef Kohn.
Collectibility: Today, original pieces marked with the "Josias Eissler & Söhne Wien" stamp are highly sought after by collectors of Art Nouveau and antique Viennese furniture.
 
Condition:
Good original condition.
The loop at the back has a split.
The circular stretcher that holds together the legs has an split which has been restored but still visible.
The frame shows traces of use, which only gives to this piece a nice character.
The cane seat is in perfect vintage condition
The chair has been cleaned and waxed to preserve the wood,
